Arkansas 11th with play suspended

Arkansas’ women were in 11th place at the NCAA Women’s Championship at The Concession Club in Bradenton, Fla., when play was suspended due to darkness at 7:21 p.m. Central on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, play was delayed for 55 minutes because of lightning at 2:45 p.m. Play will resume today at 6:30 a.m. with five teams still on the course. The fourth round is scheduled to start at 9:50 a.m.

The Razorbacks finished their third round with a 55 over 919 (310-306-303). The top 15 teams advance to the final round and the top eight advance to match play.

Southern California was leading the tournament at 28 over with its players on Nos. 13-16. Duke, which was second at 31 over, also had its players on No. 13-16.

Arizona, which was in third place, finished its round with a 41 over 905. Tennessee was in fourth place at 43-over with its players on Nos. 13-16.

Battling to stay in the top 15 were 13th place South Carolina at 59 over, 14th place Wake Forest at 60 and 16th place UCLA at 64 over, with its players on No. 13-18.

Alabama, in 15th place, finished its round with a 927 at 63 over.

Alabama’s Emma Talley is the individual leader at 1 over 216 with Arizona State’s Monica Vaughn at 1-over through 17, Southern California’s Annie Park 2-over through 13 and Duke’s Leona Maguire at 3 over through 13.

Arkansas’ Gaby Lopez finished her round at 4-over 220 and is tied for fifth.

Two ASU players on All-tournament team

Arkansas State’s Zach George and Chandler Hawkins were each named to the Sun Belt Conference all-tournament team on Sunday. George was 8 for 16 in ASU’s four games with six RBI while finishing his career on a 74-game on-base streak. Hawkins pitched a career-hihg 7 2/3 innings in ASU’s 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern in an elimination game, with 10 strikeouts. Hawkins, a senior from Memphis, was named to last year’s all-tournament team, too. Louisiana-Lafayette’s Stefan Trosclair, whose 12th inning grand slam helped give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 5-1 victory over South Alabama in Sunday’s tournament final, was named Most Outstanding Player.
