Hendrix College promotes chaplain

CONWAY -- Hendrix College has named its longtime chaplain J. Wayne Clark as its new associate vice president for development and dean of the chapel.

"Wayne has served the college well as our Chaplain for 18 years and has developed great relations not only with our campus community but also our alumni and friends across the state and nation," W. Ellis Arnold III -- senior executive vice president, general counsel and dean of advancement -- said in a news release Wednesday.

Clark, a 1984 graduate of Hendrix, received his master's degree from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He also has served as chaplain for the Children's Medical Center Hematology, Oncology and Neurology departments in Dallas and as a minister at churches in Dallas, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and Halifax, England.

As an associate vice president, Clark will be responsible for the Hendrix Annual Fund, planned giving and major gifts. He also will provide leadership for advancement services, the college said in the release.

J.J. Whitney, associate chaplain and associate director of the Miller Center for Vocation, Ethics and Calling, will be the college's interim chaplain.

Clark became Hendrix College's associate chaplain in 1996 and later became chaplain.
