SPRINGDALE -- Mike Luttrell, president of the Springdale School Board, plans to run in the Sept. 15 election.

Luttrell, 47, became School Board president in September 2013. He was first elected about 10 years ago, but briefly left the School Board in 2009 when he moved out of the zone he represented. He returned in 2010 to finish the unexpired term of Doug Sprouse after Sprouse's election as mayor.

Luttrell was appointed to the Governor's Council on Common Core Review this year.

During his time on the School Board, the Springdale School District has been faced with maintaining a fiscally sound budget and quality instruction while managing unprecedented growth, Luttrell said. If re-elected, Luttrell said he hopes to continue providing learning opportunities for all children in Springdale schools.

"During this time of challenging growth, the Springdale School District has continued to receive national and state recognition for the outstanding achievements of our students, teachers and administrators," Luttrell said.

Luttrell grew up in Springdale and has lived in Springdale since his graduation in 1991 from Oklahoma Baptist University. He is married to Debbie Luttrell and has three children. He is president of Walker Brothers Insurance in Springdale.
