Junior Stroke Play begins

Garrett May of Hope and Elizabeth Moon of Forrest City are back to defend their titles at the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Stroke Play which begins today at Cypress Creek Golf Course in Cabot.

May won last year’s boys event at Shadow Valley Country Club in Rogers when he trailed Ryan Spurlock of Maumelle by five strokes coming into the second and final round before winning on the third playoff hole. Spurlock, the winner of last week’s Bruce Jenkins Memorial Junior Championship at Rebsamen Golf Course in Little Rock, is entered at Cypress Creek.

Other contenders include Peyton Wilhoit of Searcy, Cameron McRae of Little Rock and Carter Cloe of Conway.

On the girls side, Moon won last year’s championship by one stroke over Kirsten Garner at Shadow Valley. She is expected to be challenged by Josie Roberson and Allie Weiner, both of Maumelle. Moon, Roberson and Weiner went 1-2-3 at last week’s Bruce Jenkins.

The state junior stroke play concludes Tuesday at Cypress Creek.
