Gang-related graffiti found in Springdale, police say

SPRINGDALE -- Graffiti police described as gang related was found on multiple buildings on Lowell Road over the past several days.

The graffiti was on Wholesale Central Vacuum at 1900 Lowell Road, U-Stor at 1806 Lowell Road and on two work vans at 1802 Lowell Road, according to reports from the Springdale Police Department.

Graffiti on the buildings used derogatory words, some of which on Wholesale Central Vacuum referred to police. Some of the graffiti included "TLS," while other parts included "Sur" with three dots and "x3."

TLS is a local gang and graffiti that reads "Sur" with three dots and "x3" is associated with a different local gang, said Lt. Scott Lewis, public information officer at the Springdale Police Department. He said he's seen more graffiti that's derogatory toward police since two homicides earlier this year.

Jason Durfee owns Wholesale Central Vacuum and said black graffiti appeared on his building over Saturday night. He said he noticed an addition of blue graffiti when he got to the property Wednesday morning. He also found graffiti on his building six months ago that read "TLS" in black in three to four spots, he said.

Durfee said he plans to install security cameras outside his building and motion sensors inside as soon as possible. If the graffiti issue continues, he said he would consider moving his business out of Springdale.
