Kosovo water plot leads to arrest of 5

WARSAW -- Five people were in custody in Kosovo on Sunday, accused in a terrorist plot to contaminate the water supply in the capital, Pristina.

Local news reports said three people were arrested Saturday morning while acting suspiciously near the Badovac reservoir, which supplies Pristina with nearly half its water. Weapons, ammunition and Islamic State propaganda were found in the suspects' vehicles, the reports said.

Pristina officials decided to cut off water to tens of thousands of residents Saturday until the water could be tested. At first, Kosovo officials attributed the cutoff to "security issues," but they later said it was linked to a suspected poisoning plot.

By Saturday evening, government health officials said tests had concluded that the water was not tainted, and the city was urged to restore service.

The Islamic State in recent videos has exhorted followers to poison water supplies.
