BRETT EIBNER (AAA Royals) scored 8 runs on 11 hits (including 3 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs) with 8 RBI to raise his batting average from .271 to .292.

MARK REYES (A Giants) earned a victory July 5 against the Kannapolis (N.C.) Intimidators (A White Sox). Reyes allowed 8 hits, but gave up only 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts as the Augusta GreenJackets won 7-3.

Who's not

CRAIG GENTRY (AAA Athletics) saw his batting average drop to .243 after scoring 4 runs on 6 hits with 3 stolen bases in his past 7 games.

MICHAEL GUNN (A Red Sox) suffered a loss Wednesday at Asheville, N.C., (A Rockies) and saw his ERA rise 0.45 to 4.74. Gunn allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts as the Greenville (S.C.) Drive (A Red Sox) lost 7-4 in 11 innings.

News and notes

• Pitcher Chris Oliver (Arkansas Razorbacks) was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies on July 5 to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a deal that landed the No. 1 overall international signing slot for the Phillies. The move allowed the Phillies financial flexibility to sign 16-year-old Dominican outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz on Thursday. Oliver, who was 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA in 13 appearances for the Class A Lakewood (Fla.) Blue Claws, was assigned to Class A Kane County on Wednesday. He won his debut for the Cougars on Thursday in a 13-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (A Brewers). Oliver allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 6 innings.

• Shortstop Matt Reynolds (Arkansas Razorbacks) was named a Pacific Coast League All-Star on Thursday, one day after being placed on the 7-day disabled list. Las Vegas 51s media relations manager Jim Gemma said he could not give injury reports without a player's consent, but said New York media outlets reported Reynolds' injury as right elbow inflammation. Reynolds will likely not travel to the All-Star Game, which will be played Wednesday at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb.

• Pitcher Montreal Robertson (McGehee) was promoted to the Class AA Erie (Pa.) SeaWolves from the high-A Lakeland (Fla.) Flying Tigers on July 6. Robertson was 2-6 with a 3.16 ERA in 19 appearances for Lakeland, but had been improving over the past month. "His numbers over the last month were good enough to give him a shot at this level," said Greg Gania, Erie's assistant general manager. Robertson was used in a spot start for his Erie debut Wednesday, but took the loss 4-2 to Altoona (AA Pirates). He allowed 3 runs -- 2 earned -- on 5 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Gania said Robertson will work out of the bullpen going forward.

• Pitcher Brad Wallace (Arkansas State/Rison) was promoted to Class A Bowling Green (Ky.) from short-season Class A Hudson Valley on Wednesday. Wallace was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 4 appearances for Hudson Valley, including a 3-1 victory over Staten Island (short-A Yankees) in his last appearance on July 4. "One of our players went on paternity leave for the birth of his daughter, but has since returned," Bowling Green media relations manager Daniel Reed said of Wallace's call-up. "I'm not sure what the plans are for Brad in the coming days." Wallace lost Thursday in his Bowling Green debut. He allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of an 11-2 loss to Dayton (A Reds).

• Three players with Arkansas ties who were drafted last month remain unsigned. Pitcher Daniel Sprinkle of White Hall, who was taken in the 15th round by the Cleveland Indians, previously signed to play collegiately at Auburn. Fayetteville pitcher John Boushelle, a 20th-round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers, has signed to play at Kansas State. Fayetteville pitcher Andy Pagnozzi, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette player of the year who was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the 36th round, has signed to play at Ole Miss. Teams have until Friday to agree to contract terms with drafted players.

• Pitcher Barrett Astin (Arkansas Razorbacks/Forrest City) earned his first victory for the Pensacola (Fla.) Blue Wahoos (AA Reds) on Friday. Astin allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of a 6-3 victory over the Montgomery (Ala.) Biscuits (AA Rays). He had not factored in the decision in either of his first two starts for the Blue Wahoos, but Manager Pat Kelly said after Friday's game that Astin has looked good. "That's what you want is a starter who can give you six innings and then turn it over to the bullpen with a lead," Kelly said. "Barrett's done that all three times he's been out there."

Around the horn

• Pitcher Keegan Ghidotti (Ouachita Baptist) was released by the Baltimore Orioles organization on June 30. Ghidotti was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 3 appearances for the short-season Class A Aberdeen (Md.) IronBirds. ... Pitcher Jackson Lowery (Arkansas Razorbacks/Central Arkansas/Pulaski Academy) was promoted to high-A Dunedin, Fla., from the Toronto Blue Jays' Gulf Coast League rookie team on July 6. Lowery, who allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits in 4 innings with the rookie team, took the loss in his Dunedin debut Thursday at Daytona (high-A Reds). He allowed 3 earned runs on 2 hits with 3 walks in one-third of an inning in the 5-1 loss. ... Third baseman Zack Cox (Arkansas Razorbacks) went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored Thursday for the Jacksonville (Fla.) Suns (AA Marlins) in a 7-2 victory over the Mobile (Ala.) BayBears (AA Diamondbacks). ... Outfielder Collin Radack (UALR) went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored Thursday for the Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinals (high-A Cardinals) in a 10-0 victory over the Bradenton (Fla.) Marauders (high-A Pirates).
