Law enforcement officials from around Arkansas gathered Tuesday to mourn the passing of James Allen, who served as chief of the Rogers and Bentonville police departments.

Allen, 60, was chief of the Rogers Police Department from April 4, 2011 until his death Jan. 22, 2015. He was chief of the Bentonville Police Department for 22 years until his retirement March 31, 2011.

He served with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, The Arkansas Alcoholic Beveral Control Enforcement Division and began his career as a patrolman and emergency medical technician in Jacksonville, Ark.

Hundreds attended funeral services for Allen on Tuesday. Police vehicles from several Northwest Arkansas agencies joined the funeral procession which stretched more than 100 cars.

At his funeral, Allen was eulogized using his own often repeated phrases including: "Do the right thing at the right time for the right reasons and treat everyone with dignity and respect."
