Springdale schools chief gets extra year

SPRINGDALE -- The Springdale School Board has approved an extension of Superintendent Jim Rollins' contract, which now is set to expire Dec. 31, 2017, board President Mike Luttrell said.

The contract extension was approved late Tuesday after board members met in private for Rollins' annual evaluation. No changes were made to the contract, with Rollins' annual salary remaining at $218,588.

"In extending that contract another year, the board was pleased with his service and the level and amount of work he does," Luttrell said. "He manages a school district and a big budget as efficiently and productively as anybody possibly could."

The Springdale School District has an enrollment of more than 21,000 students and has a general operating budget for this school year of $179.29 million.

Rollins, 67, is in his 32nd year as the district's superintendent, according to the district's website.
