A Few Good Men

ACO Chorale auditions set Jan. 26

Denice Parkhurst is looking for a few good men. And women, too. The only requirement is a love of singing.

Parkhurst is director of the Arts Center of the Ozarks Chorale, and having celebrated the holidays early this year with a concert Nov. 14, she's thinking ahead to the May 2 performance.

"We'll have about 14 rehearsals before we put on the show," she says.

The Chorale is open to anyone who can sing -- or really wants to learn. Reading music is a plus, "but if you're a good follower, that's OK." Right now, Parkhurst would especially like to have more basses and tenors.

"We always need more guys."

Parkhurst, taking a cue from Director of Theater Harry Blundell, says she can't choose the spring semester music until she sees how the group shapes up. And she won't know that until the first rehearsal Jan. 26. New singers should come at 6:30 p.m. to audition -- but Parkhurst says not to worry. "It's just a way to place you in the Chorale."

Rehearsals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Mondays in the upstairs gallery at the Arts Center.

The only cost to participate is purchasing music, which is $25, and the cost of the performance "uniform."
