Fayetteville man dies in head-on wreck; two hurt

A Fayetteville man died and two other people were injured Sunday in a head-on collision between two vehicles in Washington County, authorities said.

It happened about 5:10 p.m. on Arkansas 16 west of Lake Wedington and Fayetteville, Arkansas State Police said.

According to a report, 18-year-old Brian Hargis of Winslow was driving a 2007 Chevy Silverado east on the highway when the pickup crossed into the westbound lane and hit a Subaru Forrester head-on.

The driver of the Forrester, 51-year-old Robert Stuart of Fayetteville, died at the scene. Hargis and a passenger in the Forrester, 49-year-old Angela Stuart of Fayetteville, were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

It wasn't clear what caused the Silverado to cross the centerline. Conditions were described as clear and dry.

The death was the 34th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year and one of three reported Sunday, according to preliminary figures.
