SWEETHEARTS' NECKLACE

Association presents hearts of gold to young volunteers

Tiny gold hearts strung on gold chains were presented to the Central Arkansas Sweethearts at their annual necklace dinner on Jan. 23 at Chenal Country Club.

The Sweethearts is a program of the American Heart Association. The young women have completed their volunteer hours -- at least 20 -- at several central Arkansas hospitals and have been certified in adult and infant CPR. They will be presented at the Heart Ball on Saturday.

Those completing at least 70 hours of community service received the Bronze Award, and the Silver Service Award was given to Sweethearts completing at least 100 hours. The Sotomora Service Award, which is presented to the Sweetheart with the most volunteer hours, will be announced at the Heart Ball.

The high school sophomores and their families dined on a heart-healthy dinner, followed by a program. Dr. Anthony Fletcher gave the keynote address and Troy Wells, chief executive officer of Baptist Health, which sponsored the dinner, told the girls he was proud of their work and commitment.

The necklaces were presented by Steve and Trish Roberson with Roberson's Fine Jewelry, which provides the necklaces. Donna Terrell served as master of ceremonies.
