Brady overcame a a pair of Northwest Arkansas triples and two runs in the second inning and he gave up just two hits over the next five innings as Arkansas defeated the Naturals 4-2 before 3,041 fans in Arvest Ballpark. Brady gave up six hits and he struck out seven without giving up a walk in seven innings of work.
"Brady had our number tonight," said Naturals manager Vance Wilson. "We took it to Brady last time, and that is what is funny about this league when you play them so many times. We didn't have much offense, and we couldn't get a rally."
Arkansas (58-49, 22-16 second half) tied the game at 2-2 on a two-run home run by Michael Snyder in the fourth inning and then they added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to rally for the win. The Travelers also took advantage of eight walks from three different Naturals pitchers.
The Naturals (54-53, 14-23 second half) first three hits went for extra bases and back-to-back triples by Alex Liddi and Hunter Dozier to start the second inning allowed Northwest Arkansas to take a 2-0 lead. Dozier, who hit his first triple of the year, scored on a groundout by Bubba Starling.
The Naturals only managed two singles and a double in their last seven-at bats.
Short Hops
• Naturals shortstop Raul Mondesi hit a one-out double in the first inning and then quickly stole third base. But the Naturals first at-bat ended when Arkansas right fielder Cal Towey caught Lane Adams' fly ball and he then gunned down Mondesi with a one-hop throw to catcher Raywilly Gomez.
• Northwest Arkansas was just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and they had runners at first and second when the game ended.
Extra Bases: Naturals starting pitcher Luke Farrell didn't figure in the decision, leaving after 5 2/3 innings and the game tied at 2-2. Farrell (1-3, 3.65) gave up five hits and two runs and he struck out five while walking five. ... Four of the Naturals seven hits came in the first two innings.
On Deck: The two teams will play the second game of the three-game series tonight at 7 p.m. Northwest Arkansas will send right-handed pitcher Matt Murray (5-1, 3.51) to the mound. Arkansas will start right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin (7-7, 4.93). McGowin was taken by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2013 Major League Draft.
