Boozman niece lands AETN job

The Arkansas Educational Television Network has hired former state Rep. Stephanie Malone, R-Fort Smith, as its professional relations director at an annual salary of $53,109, the network's executive director said Wednesday.

Malone will start work Monday and live in Conway, said AETN Executive Director Allen Weatherly.

She will fill the vacancy created with the retirement of Kathleen Branton last summer, Weatherly said.

Malone served in the state House of Representatives from 2009 until January and has worked as director of marketing at Chaffee Crossing, a media buyer for the Emagination Group and the communications director for the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, according to her resume. She also is the niece of Republican U.S. Sen. John Boozman of Rogers.

Weatherly said Malone was selected as the top candidate for the job from a pool of 104 applicants.

"The successful candidate has come recommended by many, including broad bipartisan support," Weatherly wrote in a memo to his staff. "She has good relationships in Little Rock and, as I discovered last week, in Washington. She will serve as a member of our team dealing with Little Rock and state government, will work with me on commission relations and assist the AETN Commission with our federal relationships."

"In addition, she will work on grant writing and, as always, the ever-present 'other duties as assigned,'" Weatherly wrote.
