BASKETBALL

ASU women to host postseason banquet

The Arkansas State women’s team will hold its annual postseason awards banquet Thursday at Cooper Alumni Center on the ASU campus in Jonesboro.

The program will feature highlights from the 2014-2015 season, special awards and recognition for accomplishments throughout the season and the presentation of class gifts. The event also will feature the presentation of the Red Wolves’ Excellence Award that takes into account academics, community service, on and off the court effort and overall character.

The banquet, which is open to the public, will include a buffet dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person.

SOFTBALL

UCA’s Shock named to NCAA committee

Central Arkansas assistant athletic director Natalie Shock has been appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Division I softball committee.

Shock is one of 10 members on the national committee and is co-chair of the Midwest Region, which includes the Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, Big 12 Conference and Missouri Valley Conference. She became the school’s first softball coach in 1996 and served 10 seasons as the Bears coach before moving into administration.

The committee holds weekly conference calls during the season to review possible regional teams. They meet in Indianapolis on May 8-10 to choose the field for the national tournament.

GOLF

Arkansas’ Plasencia honored

Arkansas junior Regina Plasencia was named SEC co-golfer of the week Thursday.

Plasencia, of Guadalajara, Mexico, won the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., last weekend. She ranks seventh in the SEC with a 72.53 season stroke average.

TENNIS

Arkansas falls to Kentucky

The Arkansas men’s team lost to Kentucky 4-1 at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville.

The Razorbacks fell to 11-12 overall and 1-8 in the SEC. Kentucky improved to 11-12 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Santiago Munoz gave the Razorbacks their only singles victory with a 6-3, 6-3 outcome against Trey Yates. Munoz and Branch Terrell won their doubles match against Kevin Lai and Beck Pennington.

ASU loses to Texas State

The Arkansas State women’s team lost to Texas State 4-1 in a neutral site match in Arlington, Texas.

Tamara Slijepcevic defeated Monica Pieratt 6-1, 6-1, but ASU did not win another point in singles competition.

The Red Wolves dropped to 3-9; Texas State is 5-5.
