Rogers Police Hope New App Increases Communication Between Officers, Residents

ROGERS -- The Police Department has a free smartphone application that aggregates contact information, tips and police news all at the touch of a cellphone or tablet, said Keith Foster, department spokesman.

"In keeping with the idea that technology is a good thing, (the app) is a way for us to communicate with the people of Rogers," Foster said. "We work for the people of Rogers. For us to do our jobs, we have to know what their concerns are."

Rogers police have long promoted the idea of working with the community to prevent and solve crimes. Police regularly hold community outreach meetings and speak with groups and individuals.

The app has a number of features meant to make communication between residents and police easier, Foster said. With the app, residents can track police online, police social media updates, get urgent notifications and Amber Alerts, find a Police Department directory, leave tips and even file complaints or praise about officers.

Foster said the app also allows people to ask for more patrols when they are on vacations, check out information about traffic plans and view city codes and ordinances. The app will cost police $159 per month to operate, Foster said.

"We're trying every way we can to talk to the people of Rogers and to have them talk to us," he said.
