Fayetteville, Springdale School Candidates File Expense Reports

Three Washington County school board candidates have spent money for yard signs and mailers in their campaigns to be elected Tuesday, according to expenditure reports filed this week with the Washington County Clerk's office.

Kathy McFetridge, who is seeking the Zone 3 seat on the Springdale School Board, reported receiving $1,490 in a single contribution and spending $970 for brochures and yard signs. The contribution was from Ozark Film and Video, a company she and her husband own.

Her opponent, Henry Hudson, didn't submit a report.

County Clerk Becky Lewallen said the pre-election report is due from candidates who receive or spend more than $500 before the election. All candidates must file a final report by Oct. 30, even if they didn't spend any money or receive any contributions.

Incumbent Tim Hudson, seeking re-election to the Zone 5 seat on the Fayetteville School Board, reported his campaign borrowed $595 and received $250 in contributions. He spent $595 for the design and printing of postcards and fliers and yard signs. Hudson loaned his campaign $595, leaving a balance of $250 in his fund.

Tim Hollis, who is running against Tim Hudson, reports no contributions and spending $2,056 to two law firms for campaign consulting and for the design and printing of mailers.

The only contested races on the Washington County school election ballots are in Springdale and Fayetteville. School board candidates in Elkins, Greenland, West Fork, Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln are running unopposed.

No school district in the county is asking for a millage increase.

Jennifer Price, Washington County election coordinator, said no polling places will be open in the districts with uncontested races.

Unopposed candidates need at least one vote during the early voting period to be considered elected to their positions under state law.

Early voting started Tuesday and continues through Monday at the County Clerk's office at the Washington County Courthouse.

Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Springdale and Fayetteville.

Springdale voters who live in Washington County will vote at Elmdale Baptist Church. Springdale voters who live in Benton County will cast ballots at the Moose Lodge in Bethel Heights.

Fayetteville voters in Zone 5 will have three polling places -- Central United Methodist Church, Christ's Church, and Wiggins Methodist Church. Fayetteville voters who don't live in Zone 5 but want to vote on the district millage may do so at the Wiggins location, Price said.
