Hoop Dreams duo set to speak in LR

A presentation about the award-winning, 1994 documentary Hoop Dreams will be held today at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock in partnership with the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival.

Arthur Agee, one of two Chicago-area high school basketball players whose lives were chronicled in the documentary, will appear with executive producer Gordon Quinn. Quinn is the artistic director and founding member of Kartemquin Films, a nationally recognized media arts organization that acts as a bridge between communities and the media and fosters filmmaking about social issues.

The documentary follows Agee and another rising basketball star, William Gates, from their poor Chicago neighborhood as they transfer from a public to a private school to have a better chance at playing in the NBA and improving their education.

Seats for the noon lecture in Sturgis Hall can be reserved by emailing [email protected] or calling (501) 683-5239. More information on the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, which runs through Sunday, can be found at www.hsdfi.org.
