SPRINGDALE — Josh Floyd, who won 99 games and 4 state championships at Shiloh Christian over a 10-year span, announced his resignation Thursday to accept a similar position at Class 7A Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama.
Floyd, who starred at Shiloh as a quarterback under Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, continued the winning tradition that Malzahn started at the Springdale-based Christian school.
The Saints won a Class 3A state title and finished runner-up, then moved up to Class 4A and dominated with three consecutive state championships with a team loaded with Division I talent, including one of the nation's top dual-threat quarterbacks in Keihl Frazier.
From 2006-2010, the Saints were the winningest program in Arkansas and were ranked 24th nationally by USA Today. Frazier was also honored by USA Today as the Offensive Player of the Year. Frazier signed with Auburn, but has since transferred to Ouachita Baptist.
The Saints petitioned the Arkansas Activities Association two years ago to be elevated to Class 5A, where last fall they earned a playoff berth. Shiloh Christian will return to Class 4A this fall.
According to a news release issued by Shiloh Christian, Hewitt-Trussville is opening a new $16 million stadium this fall that will seat 8,000. The Huskies will compete in a rugged conference that will include national powerhouse Hoover, Ala.
"We are thrilled at the opportunity that is ahead of Coach Floyd. Hewitt-Trussville is a member of the newly formed 7A classification in Alabama made up of 32 teams," the release said.
The Administration of Shiloh Christian will immediately undertake a diligent and aggressive search for the next coach who can continue the legacy and tradition of Shiloh Christian football and help develop the next generation of Godly leaders, the release said.
