BENTONVILLE -- A Rogers man was arrested Tuesday after a woman reported she was kidnapped.

Jose Garcia-Chavez, 25, was being held in the Benton County Jail with a $50,000 bond Thursday. He was arrested in connection with kidnapping, a Class Y felony; and terroristic threatening in the first degree, a Class D felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of domestic battery, disorderly conduct and third degree assault on a family or household member.

Rogers police received a report for a welfare check on a woman Monday. A friend told police he was talking on the phone with the woman when he heard her scream and the call was disconnected.

Police went to the woman's home, but couldn't locate her or her vehicle.

The woman previously filed an order of protection against Garcia-Chavez. Police attempted to "ping" both of their cell phones to locate them, but that failed.

Police received a call at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday from the woman who claimed she willingly was traveling with Garcia-Chavez to Branson, Mo. The call then was disconnected. Attempts to reach the woman again by phone failed.

The woman failed to report to work Tuesday. Her sister told police she wouldn't leave town without her children.

Police were able to find the woman at an apartment on North Woods Lane. The woman had a blackened and swollen left eye and she appeared distraught.

Garcia-Chavez was at the apartment and was arrested.

The woman told police she left work Monday and was driving home when Garcia-Chavez came out of the hatchback portion of her car and grabbed her while she was driving.

The woman said Garcia-Chavez threatened and hit her. He then drove her to Missouri for several hours.

Prosecutors haven't filed formal charges against Garcia-Chavez. His arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 30 in Circuit Judge Robin Green's court.
