FOR THE RECORD

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS 9,

SPRINGFIELD 1

The first eight batters in Northwest Arkansas’ lineup had at least one hit Friday night, and the Naturals pounded their way to a victory over Springfield in Texas League baseball action at Arvest Ballpark.

Catcher Parker Morin, Northwest Arkansas’ No. 8 batter, had three hits, and six other batters had two hits apiece as the Naturals (12-22) banged out 16 hits against four Springfield batters. That included St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Motte, who entered the game in the seventh and pitched two-thirds of an inning in a rehab assignment.

Springfield (17-17) didn’t help it cause by committing three errors. A throwing miscue by third baseman Patrick Wisdom in the third inning allowed Justin Trapp to score from second on Jorge Bonafico’s ground ball and give Northwest Arkansas a 2-1 lead.

That proved to be all starting pitcher Sam Selman and two Naturals relievers needed as they combined on a five-hitter. Selman (2-2) allowed just three hits over five innings as Northwest Arkansas won for only the third time at home this season.
