COLLEGE FOOTBALL Oklahoma receiver commits to UA

Tight end Austin Cantrell of Roland, Okla., orally committed to Arkansas during a visit Thursday, four days after receiving a scholarship offer from the Razorbacks.

Cantrell, 6-3 ½, 249 pounds, 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash, is drawing interest from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Memphis.

“I personally like [Coach Bret Bielema], I like his coaching staff,” Cantrell said. “I like everything they have to offer, so I just jumped on board.”

Bielema’s straightforward and down-to-earth approach won over Cantrell.

“He’ll tell you straight up how it is,” Cantrell said.”That’s the kind of guy I want to play for.”

Cantrell had 9 receptions for 268 yards, an average of 29.7 yards per catch, and 2 touchdowns last season to go along with 334 yards and 9 touchdowns on 41 rushes.

ATHLETICS ASU names director to foundation

Adam Haukup was named executive director of the Red Wolves Foundation on Thursday by Arkansas State Athletic Director Terry Mohajir.

Haukup, who came to ASU from Oklahoma State, takes over the fundraising arm for ASU’s athletic department while the school is undergoing several facilities projects. ASU is in the beginning stages of a $25 million indoor practice facility that will be available to all sports and have plans for a new press box at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Haukup spent the past eight years as Oklahoma State’s senior associate athletics director for sales and marketing. He will take over at ASU for Carter Ford, who spent a little more than a year in the position before resigning in January to go into private business.
