Garden party keeps Hospice in good health

About 550 donned denim, dresses and cowboy boots at the 23rd annual Friends of Washington Regional Hospice Summer Garden Party June 14 in Fayetteville.

The event, themed West Meets South, was held at the home of Kim and Bob Whitfield. Amy Linimon, director of development and external relations at Washington Regional Foundation, said in an email that the event exceeded its net revenue goal of $90,000. The proceeds benefit Friends of Washington Regional Hospice, ensuring that all terminally ill patients and their families receive compassionate and high quality hospice care regardless of age, terminal condition or ability to pay, she said.

The evening included dinner, live and silent auctions, a photo booth and live music by Jeff Fox and Jed Clampit followed by Backroad Anthem. The garden party's diamond sponsors were the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation and Glazer's, and Tammy and Carl Shipley were gold sponsors. Silver sponsors included Five Star Sports, Highlands Oncology Group, Hannah and Greg Lee, P&G and Jean and John Rosso.

There were about 200 silent auction items, Linimon said.

About $25,000 was raised in the live auction, she added. Items offered included a trip for two to Become a Sonoma Valley Winemaker Intimate Blending Seminar, Underwood's Fine Jewelers Ultimate Fayetteville Weekend, a $3,000 room makeover from Interiors by Canova, Fayetteville Square Condo Party hosted by Hannah and Greg Lee, Girls' Night Out for 12 with the Razorback coaches' wives (Marcheita Anderson, Jen Bielema and Karen Van Horn), AKC registered labrador puppy from Mountain Creek Kennels and a private party with Jen and Coach Bret Bielema. The auction area also featured a margarita station serving Lynchburg lemonades and margaritas, and other beverages at the event were provided by Glazer's and McBride Distributing, she said.

Catering Unlimited provided an early buffet of southwest corn and pecan dip with crackers, deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese, boneless buffalo wings, shrimp cocktail, raspberry chipotle meatballs and pulled pork sliders, along with a late night buffet featuring make-your-own burger sliders, fried pickles and sweet potato fries.
