FAYETTEVILLE -- A woman initially arrested in connection with three misdemeanor charges added four felony charges while at the Washington County Detention Center.

Summer Jones, 34, of 1302 N. Carriage Way was arrested Tuesday night at the Washington County Detention Center in connection with aggravated assault on a correctional officer and three counts of second-degree battery, according to a preliminary arrest report.

Jones was in a holding cell and began screaming and banging on the door, according to the report. Deputy Jamie Dunn went to open the door to speak with Jones, and Jones began to try and strangle herself with her hair. As Dunn tried to prevent Jones from harming herself, Jones punched Dunn in the face, which caused Dunn's head to hit the cement wall, according to the report.

As other deputies tried to assist, Jones spit in Dunn's face and bit her arm, according to the report.

Two deputies were treated by the medical staff at the jail.

"Both are fine and will return to work Sunday," Lt. Anthony Foster said.

Jones was initially arrested in connection with public intoxication, shoplifting and third-degree endangerment of the welfare of a minor, according to a separate report.

Police arrested Jones on Tuesday at 1500 S. School Ave. after they found her intoxicated and trying to hide three bottles of automotive fluid and gum in her purse, according to the report. Jones's two-year-old daughter was with her at the time she was arrested.
