FAYETTEVILLE -- A Washington County Quorum Court member and three incumbent mayors were among 15 people who officially declared candidacies for municipal office on the first day of filing.
Diane Bryant of Farmington filed to run on the city council. She was appointed to the county court last year by the governor and isn't allowed to run for re-election.
Otherwise incumbents dominated the day. Mayors Bill Groom of Greenland, Ernie Penn of Farmington and Sonny Hudson of Prairie Grove filed for re-election. Mark Kinion, Ward 2 alderman for Fayetteville, also filed for re-election.
Potential candidates for city council, mayor and other positions have until Aug. 15 to file with the county clerk, Becky Lewallen, at the Washington County Courthouse, 280 N. College Ave., Fayetteville. She and the city clerks can provide the necessary paperwork.
