Strawberry work funded in 9 states

A $1.05 million gift from the Walmart Foundation is funding six projects in nine states exploring sustainable strawberry farming methods, the University of Arkansas has announced.

The money is another gift from the foundation to the UA System's Division of Agriculture's Center for Rural and Agricultural Sustainability. A $3 million gift last year established the National Strawberry Sustainability Initiative.

Examples of the latest research include an effort to revitalize the fruit industry in Arkansas, especially strawberry growth in Washington and Boone counties. Other projects focus on agricultural efforts in Texas and the eastern United States.
