Filing period set for NLR, Maumelle offices

Friday is the start of the filing period for candidates seeking elected municipal offices in North Little Rock and Maumelle on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

The filing deadline at the Pulaski County Circuit/County Clerk's office will be noon Aug. 15.

Positions with terms ending this year are the Maumelle mayor and city clerk/treasurer offices and, in each city, four alderman seats and the city attorney jobs. All terms are for four years.

Current officeholders in North Little Rock whose positions are up for election are: City Attorney Jason Carter; Ward 1 Alderman Debi Ross; Ward 2 Alderman Linda Robinson; Ward 3 Alderman Steve Baxter; and, Ward 4 Alderman Murry Witcher.

North Little Rock aldermen are paid $10,300 annually with a $250 automobile allowance.

The North Little Rock city attorney's job is budgeted for a salary of $92,497 per year. For the past 18 months, Carter has been both city attorney and acting general manager for the North Little Rock Electric Department at a salary of $127,521 for the dual role.

Maumelle officeholders whose positions are up for election are: Mayor Mike Watson; City Attorney JaNan Davis; City Clerk/Treasurer Joshua Clausen; Ward 1 Alderman Ken Saunders; Ward 2 Alderman Rick Anderson; Ward 3 Alderman Burch Johnson; and, Ward 4 Alderman Jan Hogue.

Davis, who has been Maumelle's city attorney for 13 years, announced she won't run for re-election. The city attorney's annual salary is $85,000.

The Maumelle mayor's job pays $78,000 per year. The salary for Maumelle city clerk/treasurer is $56,000. Maumelle aldermen are paid $250 per meeting.

Election filings for municipal offices in Sherwood and Jacksonville were completed in May.
