• George W. Bush, 68, the former president, had his left knee partially replaced in Chicago, seven weeks after having the same procedure on his right knee.

• Nadya Suleman, 39, a single mother of octuplets and six other children who is sometimes referred to as "Octomom," pleaded no contest in California to a single count of misdemeanor welfare fraud for failing to disclose income she was receiving from videos and personal appearances while collecting more than $26,000 in public assistance funds to care for her children.

• Joseph Campbell, the coroner of Bucks County, Pa., said wear and tear on a pickup used to transport bodies caused a hatchback to open and a corpse to fall onto a busy highway, and added that the 12-year-old vehicle, due to be replaced in the next few months, has been retired.

• Frank Koloski, the founder and co-owner of Rodeo Alaska, was gored while promoting and participating in the Alaska Sales & Service Bear Paw Rodeo Round-Up, which his company sponsored in Eagle River, when he took a steer horn in the abdomen.

• Sierra Wales, assistant manager at That's Entertainment in Worcester, Mass., told The Republican newspaper that the pop culture store has honored a 25-year-old, $10 gift certificate that a longtime customer had been meaning to take in for some time and which was used to buy a graphic novel.

• Lee Harty, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said inspectors at Los Angeles International Airport seized 67 live giant African snails, which are a popular delicacy across West Africa but are banned in the U.S. because they can carry parasites that are harmful to humans.

• Gary La Venia, the city manager in Fruitland Park, Pa., said Deputy Chief David Borst resigned and officer George Hunnewell was fired after a law enforcement report tied the two police officers to the Ku Klux Klan.

• Jeff Bauman, who lost both legs in the Boston Marathon bombing, and his fiancee, Erin Hurley, announced the birth Sunday of Nora Gail Bauman on the "Jeff Bauman -- Boston Strong, True Patriot and Hero" Facebook page.

• Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor and possible 2016 White House hopeful, made his first foray into New Hampshire politics, supporting Republican Scott Brown in his campaign for the U.S. Senate in the state that hosts the first-in-the-nation presidential primary.
