Early Voting Begins In Rocky Branch Election

BENTONVILLE -- Early voting begins today in the special election to have dues for the Rocky Branch Fire Protection Association placed on members' property tax statements.

Early voting will be held in the Bentonville and Rogers offices of the Benton County Clerk. Voting hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Thursday and on Monday. The offices will be closed Friday for the Fourth of July holiday and there will be no Saturday early voting in this election. Election Day is July 8, and voting will be held at Bland Chapel, 8530 Twin Coves Road.

The Fire Department wants to have its annual dues placed on property tax statements to make it easier and more efficient to collect the money. Several other fire departments in the county have their dues on property tax statements for collection. Dues in the Rocky Branch Fire Protection Association district, east of Rogers, are $75 per residence and $100 for businesses.

Those interested in running for a school board seat this summer may begin to file petitions to do so this week. The filing period begins at noon today and ends at noon July 8.

A candidate must be a qualified voter and a resident of the district and the electoral zone for which a board seat is expiring, if the board is elected from zones. Candidates must file petitions containing at least 20 signatures of qualified registered voters from their district and zone or file a notice of write-in candidacy with the county clerk. Petition forms are available at the county clerk's office.

Candidates also must file an affidavit of eligibility and a political practices pledge with their county clerk. Benton County residents may call their county clerk at 479-271-1013 for more information. Washington County residents should call 479-444-1711.

School board elections will be held Sept. 16. Early voting begins Sept. 9.
