A backhoe scraps snow off a parking lot Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at the Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale. Crews had to work to clear away snow after a winter snow dumped more than three inches on Springdale. More winter weather is expected today.

More snow than originally predicted fell Tuesday morning, and schools that had previously planned to be open today announced cancellations. Late Tuesday afternoon, many schools including the area's largest school districts announced they would be closed Wednesday.

Major roads became mostly clear Monday afternoon following Sunday's snow storm, which forced many schools into their ninth snow day of the year.

The Arkansas State Highway And Transportation Department reported early Tuesday morning that highway in Northwest Arkansas were clear or had ice patches or slush, but National Weather Service radar showed precipitation moving into the area.

Springdale School District announced that one makeup day would be Saturday, March 8.
