It's On The House

Library hosts gingerbread building party

When Sarah Loch constructs a model gingerbread house as a template for others, it will be her first such creation. But she doesn't expect it to be difficult, either for her or those that gather Saturday at the Springdale Public Library.

The young adult librarian is organizing a free program for those in grades six through 12 to join and make their own "gingerbread" houses. In the library's case, graham crackers will be substituted because they are easier to control.

Icing will be used to hold the parts together, and the ingredients beyond those serving as the bricks and mortar will be up to the student's choosing. Loch says there will be an assortment of candies and other edible decorations available to participants.

"I'm really looking forward to their creativity," Loch says.

There is no fee to attend, but participants should register in advance to let the library know how much icing and how many stacks of graham crackers to have on hand.

Students will then take their creations home. If they don't eat them first.
