Charge dropped in Tontitown killing

Fayetteville — An accomplice to capital murder charge against one of two men charged with murder in the stabbing death of a woman near Tontitown has been dropped.

Brock Atkins, 19, of Tontitown and Lewis Anthony “Tony” Hedges, 34, of Springdale were both charged with being accomplices to capital murder in the stabbing death of Leann Frazier. Both pleaded not guilty.

The charge against Hedges was amended by prosecutors Thursday to hindering apprehension, a felony punishable by five to 20 years in prison. Hedges was released on his own recognizance Thursday.

Matt Durrett, chief deputy prosecuting attorney, said it now appears Hedges was not there when the murder occurred.
