Motorcycle crash kills 1, injures 1

An Ozark man was killed Sunday night and an Ozark woman was injured when the motorcycle they were riding went off a highway south of Ozark and hit a tree, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Christopher Bennett, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident off Arkansas 23, 5 miles south of Ozark in Franklin County, a state police fatality report said.

Deborah J. Nichols, 45, who was a passenger on the 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, according to the report. Her condition was not available Monday.

The report said Bennett was driving the motorcycle north on Arkansas 23 about 8:15 p.m. and failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle crossed the highway median, ran into a ditch on the west side of the road, traveled a short distance and hit a tree.
