Lovely Purchase

Curtis Lohrding was recently presented with the national Conservation Award and Medal from the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. He was honored for his dedication to the Bella Vista Recycling Center for more than 20 years and for contributions to the Bella Vista Community.

Ninetta Potts, chairman of the conservation committee, and Gretchen Magee, regent, completed the required and extensive nomination process through the local Lovely Purchase Chapter, which was then approved on the state and national levels.

The Lovely Purchase Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Monday of the month at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista.

Sunflower Club

The Kansas Sunflower Club will meet at 11 a.m. April 28 in the Village Insurance community room for a pizza luncheon. Pizza will be ordered after everyone arrives. Those attending are asked to bring a small salad or dessert to share.

Participants will be asked to share facts about their hometown in Kansas.

All former Kansas residents are invited to attend. There are no dues.

Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet Wednesday at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista. A social gathering will start at 11 a.m. followed by a meeting at 11:30 a.m. and then a light lunch.

The program will be presented by Corrin Troutman, "The Peel Compton Foundation Old and New -- Champion Tress and Upcoming Events." Artistic design exhibit will be from club member Delories Jennings. Horticulture will be by club member Brian Grosnickle: "What we should be doing for our summer gardens in May and new plants on the market in 2014."

Club meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month, January through April, then September and October. Meetings are open to anyone interested in gardening.

Ozark Society

The Highlands Chapter of the Ozark Society will feature Susan Young at its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Presbyterian Church, 695 E. Calvin St. in Fayetteville. The outreach coordinator for the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History will speak on "The History of Fishing in the Ozarks."

Nyte Tyme Quilters

The Bella Vista Nyte Tyme Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The quilters usually meet the third Monday of every month except December. They are new and experienced quilters who meet to share techniques and project ideas. All are welcome.

This month's program will be presented by Robert Harmon, who will be demonstrating "quilt as you go." There is also a show-and-tell portion of the meeting to show personal projects completed.

The group meets at the United Lutheran Church on the corner of Cooper Road and Arkansas 279.

Hiking Club

The Hill N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will be hiking in Bentonville at Park Springs on Tuesday. Besides hiking, the club does community service, and in recognition of Earth Day, members will clean the trail as they hike.

Members will meet at Harps upper parking lot in Bella Vista at 9 a.m. in order to carpool to the hiking area. After the hike, members will lunch on the square in Bentonville.

Model A Club

The Natural State Model A Ford Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Rogers Chamber of Commerce building, Fourth and Walnut streets in Rogers.

The club welcomes anyone who has an interest in the Model A Ford. Members collect, restore and drive Model A Fords.

Civil WarRoundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at General Store building at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale, 118 W. Johnson Ave.

The program will be presented by Bob Braly of the organization Historic Cane Hill about efforts to preserve the history of this pioneer community, including its Civil War battlefield. Anyone with an interest in Civil War history is invited to attend.

Women's Club

The St. Bernard Women's Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. May 9. Installation of the new officers for 2014-15 will be at morning mass and will be followed by brunch served by the women's club. Speaker will be Rebecca Christian, founder and chief executive of Autumn's Re-Ride Youth Ranch. She will speak on "Healers of the Heart."

Democratic Women

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. Guest speaker will be Brenda Gullett, chairman of the Arkansas State Board of Education and southern director for the National Association of State Boards of Education. She will talk about the core curriculum and trends in Arkansas education.

The program is free and open to the public. Dinner is optional.

Republican Women

The Washington County Republican Women will meet Tuesday at the GOP Victory Center, 2576 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Social hour is at 6 p.m., with the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Invited speakers are Dennis Milligan, candidate for Arkansas treasurer; Tim Griffin, candidate for lieutenant governor; and Patricia Nation, candidate for attorney general.

Members are encouraged to bring a snack or case of water to share.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches will meet Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. This will be a work day to make children's quilts for donation. Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will meet Tuesday at the home of Tina Bogle. Jim McKenzie will provide instruction on how to irrigate pots and containers. Refreshments will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the business meeting at 1 p.m.

The group will be making plans for the annual plant sale.

Republican Women

The Republican Women of Bentonville will host a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. April 29 for the office of lieutenant governor and governor of the state of Arkansas in the meeting room at the Arvest Bank on the square in Bentonville.

Candidates for lieutenant governor are Debra Hobbs, Andy Mayberry and Tim Griffin; and candidates for governor are Curtis Coleman and Asa Hutchinson.

Glade Community

The Glade Community Historical Society will meet at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Lost Bridge Village community hall, 12477 Lodge Drive in Garfield. The program , to be given by Monte Harris, a fifth generation Benton County resident and adult programs educator at the Rogers Historical Museum, is titled "Memories of Glade, Arkansas."

Orchid Society

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks meets at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly raffles for members and occasional public auctions offer affordable orchids for new growers.

The Benton County Democrats will meet at 11 a.m. April 28 at Golden Corral, 2605 Pleasant Crossing Drive in Rogers. Guest speaker will be Nate Steel, the Democratic candidate for Arkansas attorney general.

Retired Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet Monday at GuestHouse International in Fayetteville. The lunch buffet begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $12 payable to hotel. Registration should be done before lunch. The meeting will begin at 12:15 p.m. The program is "Spring Gardening" with Ron Cox.

Immediately after the meeting, those who wish to learn more about using their cellphones can stay for a brief workshop.

Genealogical Society

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. April 28 at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. Professional genealogist Diane Giannini will present "Tricks of the Trade: Having a Successful Research Experience." The lecture provides proven strategies that work so a person is prepared before beginning research.
