Headquarters House in Fayetteville will be the site for the 2014 Battle of Fayetteville commemoration from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The battle occurred on April 18, 1863, when Fayetteville was under the command of U.S. troops. The charge by Confederate forces caused U.S. troops to withdraw a week later.

Rebecca Howard will discuss Women in the Civil War at 10 a.m., followed by a talk on Civil War medicine by Doug Kidd, Janice Neighbor and Jane-Ellen Ross. The Holmes Brigade Musicians will offer Civil War-era music at 12:30 p.m., and Linda Doede will talk about Cane Hill College at 1:45 p.m.

Ian Beard, portraying U.S. Col. Marcus LaRue Harrison, will describe the battle at 2 p.m. More information is available by calling (479) 521-2970.

The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville will host a performance by the Improvised Shakespeare Co. at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday in honor of the Bard’s 450th birthday. Tickets cost $10-$25.

Patrons are invited to stay after the performance for a birthday bash with cake, a Shakespeare-inspired drink and Elizabethan insults and phrases.
