Girl killed in crash of big rig, pickup

A 5-year-old girl died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle collision just outside Helena-West Helena on Friday, according to a Arkansas State Police report.

A GMC tractor-trailer and a Toyota pickup were northbound on Arkansas 242 about 6:50 p.m. when the tractor-trailer began turning left onto Phillips County Road 326, state police said. Correna Woosytitty, 26, of Helena-West Helena who was driving the pickup, swerved into the opposite lane to avoid the tractor-trailer, but was still in the southbound lane when the commercial carrier turned, state police said.

The tractor-trailer driven by George Hudson, 60, of Helena-West Helena, struck the pickup, causing both vehicles to go into a ditch, state police said.

The pickup then overturned, throwing three passengers from it, state police said.

Passengers Isabella Haury, 5, Alejandro Haury, 7, and Mya Haury, 6 - all of Helena-West Helena - and Woosytitty were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis and Helena Regional Medical Center, according to the report.

A Le Bonheur doctor pronounced Isabella dead just after 8 p.m., according to the report.

Hudson was uninjured in the collision, state police said.
