Pittman’s block,TD run net OT victory

WEST MEMPHIS - Junior Kam Pittman blocked a field-goal attempt in overtime and ran for the winning touchdown on the next play to give West Memphis a 34-28 victory over Jonesboro.

Pittman, who rushed 12 times for 77 yards and 3 touchdowns, blocked a 24-yard field-goal attempt by Jonesboro’s Will Brandt. On the Blue Devils’ first play from the 10, he took a pitch and ran untouched into the end zone.

“[Jonesboro] defended that [touchdown run] well, but my feet are pretty quick,” Pittman said. “They had me strung out wide where I had no shot to stay out there.”

The Blue Devils (1-3, 1-0 7A/6A-East) missed a chance to win in regulation when place-kicker Dante Griffin’s 35-yard field-goal attempt fell inches short.

Jonesboro (2-2, 0-1) snapped a 7-7 halftime tie when Lamar Haynes caught a deflected pass for a touchdown and a 14-7 lead.

Wingo finished 14 of 27 passing for 224 yards and all four Jonesboro touchdowns.

MOUNTAIN HOME - Marion scored six long touchdowns, two on kickoff returns, and the Patriots (2-2, 1-0 7A/6A-East) rolled past Mountain Home (0-4, 0-1).

Fernando Smith opened Marion’s scoring with an 85-yard kickoff return after a first-quarter Mountain Home score. Dereon Thomas followed that with a 68-yard touchdown run for the Patriots.
