Morrilton defense stingy in 2nd half

SPRINGDALE - Cody Mc-Nabb didn’t pull any punches when it came to his displeasure with his defensive coordinator at halftime Friday night.

So Morrilton’s coach looked in the mirror and told himself he needed to do a better job in the second half.

After giving up 41 points and 434 yards in the first half to Shiloh Christian, the Devil Dogs (3-1, 1-0) defense pitched a second-half shutout as it rolled to a 70-41 victory in the 5A-West Conference opener in Champions Stadium.

The teams combined for 778 yards and 55 points in the first half. Shiloh Christian (1-2-1, 0-1 5A-West) ran 49 offensive plays and Morrilton ran 39.

At halftime, Shiloh Christian had rallied from a 14-0 deficit to lead 41-35.

Shiloh Christian quarterback Daniel Shimer finished with 220 yards rushing and 199 passing.

Morrilton running back Sharaz Rhodes rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns. Rhodes had touchdown runs of 1, 2, 19, 38 and 44 yards.
