UA student files report of rape

A University of Arkansas at Fayetteville student reported she was raped at a fraternity house on campus early Sunday, a police spokesman said Thursday.

At 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, the victim reported that an acquaintance whom she believes is a fellow student raped her sometime between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday at the Sigma Nu fraternity house, said Capt. Gary Crain, spokesman for University Police.

The campus Police Department is trying to determine whether the suspectindeed is a student and the investigation has just begun, Crain said.

This is the first report of a rape during the fall semester and the third this calendar year, Crain said, adding that no other types of sexual assaults have been reported during 2013.

Last fall, the Sigma Nu house was reported as the site of another rape, according to Arkansas Democrat-Gazette archives, when a UA student told University Police that an acquaintance assaulted her in the early morning hours of Nov. 4.
