Watershed Meetings Scheduled

The Beaver Watershed Alliance is hosting a series of community meetings in southern Washington County to promote watershed protection near the West Fork of the White River.

The meetings are intended to educate residents about watershed pollution and steps they can take to prevent it, according to John Pennington, executive director. The alliance’s ultimate goal is to remove the West Fork of the White River from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality’s Impaired Waterbodies List. The river was cited for chlorides, sulfates and total dissolved solids in 2012.

Meetings are scheduled:

• Tuesday — 6 to 8 p.m., Greenland Community Center, 170 N. Letitia Ave.

• Sept. 30 — 6 to 8 p.m., West Fork Community Center, 222 Webber St.

• Oct. 5 — 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Brentwood Community Center, U.S. 71

• Oct. 22 — 6 to 8 p.m., Fayetteville Public Library, 401 W. Mountain St.

• Oct. 29 — 6 to 8 p.m., Boston Mountain Fire Associates, Mountain Lodge Trail, Winslow

A free meal will be provided, but space is limited. To RSVP, contact Courtney Thomas at 479-274-8903 or [email protected].
