Parkview’s Parker prances for 192

The Little Rock Parkview Patriots got an opportunity, and senior running back Camron Parker took full advantage.

Parker’s 72-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter sealed Parkview’s 20-6 victory over the Mountain Home Bombers at Scott Field on Friday night.

It came one play after Parkview linebacker Jonathan Hicks recovered a fumble by sophomore fullback Josh Newton at the Parkview 28. The recovery stopped Mountain Home’s last meaningful drive with three minutes left in the game.

“He just found a crease on that play, and that’s all he needed,” Parkview Coach William Hardiman said of Parker. “He’s so fast, you give him that, and first thing you know he’s 10 yards down the field.”

Hicks said he was delighted by Parker’s run.

“It makes me real happy when he can be a workhorse,” Hicks said.

Parker credited fullback Dominique Scott for the block that opened the game-clinching score.

“He blocked to the outside, and I just cut it back and took it to the house,” Parker said. “His block really opened the hole up.”

Parker led Parkview (1-2) with 19 carries for 192 mud-splattering yards and 2 touchdowns. It rained hard from late afternoon, well before kickoff, until midway through the third quarter.

“Their kids came to play in rough conditions,” Mountain Home Coach Benji Mahan said. “They made plays when opportunities presented themselves.”

Parkview scored on its first possession on Parker’s 12-yard run with 7:31 left in the first quarter.

Mountain Home (0-3) responded with a 10-play, 70-yard drive, capped by senior quarterback Drake Walker’s 2-yard keeper. Nick Wilhite’s extra-point attempt missed, and Parkview led 7-6.

Walker led Mountain Home with 19 carries for 61 yards, and completed 11 of 14 passes for 95 yards.

“Our quarterback’s really good,” Mahan said. “He’s our bell-cow.”

“I was afraid of their quarterback all night long,” Hardiman said. “He’s a heck of an athlete. I’ve seen him for three years, and I know he’s a tough kid.”BENTON 66, GREENBRIER 49
