PUBLIC VIEWPOINT One’s Own Beliefs Most Important

What is it about Christians that we think we have the only scoop on God’s word, which makes us critical of any other opinion diff erent from ours. I have news for Dale Lange of Bella Vista (Public Viewpoint, Nov. 26). There are as many correct opinions of the Scripture as there are denominations of Christians. Most pastors go to seminary to study Scripture interpretation, church history and other subjects. Even then it depends on which seminary you go to that gives you an outlook on Jesus and how we got the Scripture in the fi rst place.

One can decide what one believes and go to the Bible and find support for that belief. No one can say you are wrong because your opinion is as good as the rest, but not greater. There is the problem.

Pastor Grisham is of a different denomination thanI, but we agree on most things. Does that make us better than Mr. Lange.

Probably, but I cannot prove it any more than he can prove he is right and we are wrong. But the reason I say probably is because we have studied it more than he, but then it is wrong for me to say so.

Now to the commercial: It is more important what you believe and how faithful you are to that belief than it is to prove someone is wrong. I hinge my beliefon what Jesus said to the lawyer in Luke when he asked Jesus which is the greatest commandment.

Jesus answered “You shall love the Lord with all your heart … and the second is like unto it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Then he added, “on this hangs all the law and the prophets,” which was Jesus’ Scripture just as the Bible is our Scripture.
