The Central Arkansas High School All-Star Baseball game was washed out Thursday night.

The two all-star squads managed to get in almost two innings at UALR’s Curran Conway Park, but lightning forced players into the dugouts and the following rain left game officials no choice but to postpone the contest.

The two seven-inning games have been rescheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Monday night. Admission to Monday’s games will be free.

The East team had managed to grab a 2-0 lead before Thursday’s game was called.

East pitcher Tyler Zuber of White Hall and West left-hander Justin Vincent of Benton retired all three batters they faced in the first inning, but both starters got into trouble in the second.

Little Rock Central’s Kevin Garner drew a one-out walk off Zuber. Garner advanced to third on a single to right by Brett Kendig of Hot Springs Lakeside. Zuber, however, struck out Logan Hays of Little Rock Christian and Mason Chapmond of Lake Hamilton to get out of the jam.

Vincent wasn’t as fortunate in the bottom of the second. Blake Gooden of Lonoke and Jarred Smiateck of North Little Rock started an East rally with back-to back singles. After Smiateck was forced at second on a ground ball hit by Jordan Stargell of Watson Chapel and a walk to Dylan Huckaby of Central Arkansas Christian, Cabot’s Casey Vaughn lined a two-ball, one strike offering by Vincent into the left-field corner to score both Gooden and Stargell.

Vaughn’s double turned out to be the last pitch Thursday.
