PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Wellness Center’s Hours Long Enough

Rogers Morning News editor Leeanna Walker recently opined that the Rogers Adult Wellness Center should extend its hours of operation so working taxpayers could have a time to work out.

As a frequent, non-working user of the AWC facilities, I enjoy the company of many working members. They come at 7 a.m. and get their workout in before their workday begins.

Others exercise over their lunch hour and still others come in after work. The AWC is open 14 hours a day from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The typical workday is eight hours.

That leaves six hours a day working persons could do their thing at the AWC, as many already do. The AWC is also open on Saturdays from 8 a.m.

until noon for use by working members.

If the working member of the AWC wants to exercise, the opportunity already exists. Extending hours of operation of the facility is no guarantee they will. It is a guarantee, however, that the facilities, staff , and resources of the AWC will be challenged even more than they already are.
