Authorities: Elkins woman tried to have ex-husband killed

An Elkins woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with attempting to hire someone to kill her ex-husband.

Teri Lea Baber was booked into the jail at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of solicitation of murder in the first degree, a Class A felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from six to 30 years.

Keshia Guyll, the public information deputy with the Benton County Sheriff's Office, said the investigation started May 12 after the Sheriff's Office received information on the case.

Guyll said the intended victim in the solicitation was her ex-husband.

According to Guyll, Benton and Washington County deputies executed search and arrest warrants Wednesday at at Baber's residence.

She was transported to the Benton County Jail where she was being held Thursday morning waiting for a bond hearing.
