Slumping Travs lose fourth in row

The Arkansas Travelers’ hitting slump has turned into their longest losing streak of the season.

The Travelers were held to five hits and their only run came off an error in the fifth inning of a 4-1 loss to the San Antonio Missions on Friday night at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

The Travs were swept for the first time this season. Arkansas has scored two runs or less in each of its four consecutive losses and has been held to a combined four runs.

Arkansas’ only run Friday came when Travis Witherspoon walked, moved to second when Anthony Bemboom was hit by a pitch, stole third base and scored on an error by catcher Eddy Rodriguez to give the Travs a 1-0 lead.

The Missions scored three in the bottom of the fifth when A.J. Kirby-Jones led off with a home run off Arkansas starter Lay Batista, then Reymond Fuentes hit a two-run triple to make it 3-1.

The Travelers were held to three hits the rest of the game, but none of them advanced passed second base.

Batista (2-5) gave up 3 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings in his second consecutive loss.

The Travelers continue their road trip today, facing Texas League-leading Corpus Christi at 7:05 p.m.
