Blytheville police killing investigated

BLYTHEVILLE - Arkansas State Police officials are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by a Blytheville police officer, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said Monday.

Terrance Dawson, 30, of Blytheville, was shot at 6 a.m. Saturday after officers responded to a 911 call that someone was holding a person hostage on the 400 block of First Street in the Mississippi County town, Blytheville Police Chief Russ Thompson said in a news release.

Thompson did not name the officer who shot Dawson.

Sadler said state police are investigating the shooting to determine if the use of force was justified.

He said investigators have spoken with witnesses and collected forensic evidence at the scene and will turn their results over to Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington once their investigation is finished.
