UA mourns deaths of 3 students in 1 week

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas community is mourning after the deaths of three students this week.

Two students were killed in a boating accident in northeast Oklahoma, while another student died in a traffic crash in Missouri on Wednesday.

Dean of Students Danny Pugh says the string of deaths is "very shocking" for the university. He expressed condolences to the friends and families of the three students who died.

On Wednesday, 19-year-old Solomon Simpson of Fayetteville was killed in an accident on Interstate 44 near Phillipsburg, Mo. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Simpson jumped or fell from a moving vehicle and was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.

On Tuesday, UA students Rachel Swetnam and William "Trey" Varner III died in a boating accident on Grand Lake in northeast Oklahoma.
