Miles finishes strong
Alex Miles matched his personal best in the pole vault and set a personal record in the 1,500 meters Thursday as he held off Rogers Heritage teammate Daniel Spickes on the final day of the 50th annual Arkansas high school decathlon in Fayetteville. Miles finished with 6,875 points, while Spickes finished second with 6,368 points. Clint Ligon of Heber Springs scored 6,240 points and finished third.
Herman hangs on
Crossett junior Kelsey Herman stayed a step ahead of Springdale Har-Ber junior Payton Stumbaugh on Thursday to wrap up the 17th annual Arkansas high school heptathlon title in Fayetteville. Herman, the first-day leader, took advantage of a solid performance in the high jump to finish with a heptathlon-record 4,844 points.
Stumbaugh, who was going for her second consecutive title, finished runner up with 4,538 points.
