Greenland repeats as champs

Greenland girls basketball coach Alan Barton, pictured in this 2012 file photo, coached the Lady Pirates to their second consecutive state championship win Thursday in Little Rock.

— The Greenland Lady Pirates won their second consecutive Class 3A state girls basketball championship in a 59-32 win over Jessieville on Thursday in Barton Coliseum.

The Lady Pirates (20-13) trailed 6-0, but seized control with a 13-0 run and never looked back in a mercy-rule win over the previously unbeaten Lady Lions.

Morgan Miller scored 14 points to lead Greenland and Kiana Thompson, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player, scored 9 points to go along with 9 rebounds.

Justice Releford led Jessieville with 13 points.
